Jaigarh Fort: A Timeless Treasure of Jaipur

Jaigarh Fort, Jaipur, is also known as “The Victory Fort,located at the Cheel Ka Teela (Hill of Eagles) of the Aravalli range.

History: 

Constructed by Maharaja Jai Singh II, the founder of Jaipur, Rajasthan, in 1726. The fort was built to protect the Amber fort. It served as a stronghold for the Rajput kings of Jaipur and played a crucial role in defending the kingdom.

Architectural: 

The fort design indicates both beauty and military strength. The fort walls were made of red sandstone and had intricate carvings. The fort has extensive underground water storage tanks to ensure a steady water supply during sieges.

Attractions at Jaigarh Fort:  

1 One of the most renowned attractions is the Jaivana Cannon, the world’s largest cannon on wheels.

2 Laxmi Vilas Palace: A beautiful palace within the fort complex, featuring intricate architecture and royal residences.

3 Temples: Includes the Kal Bhairav Temple, dedicated to the fierce form of Lord Shiva, and other small shrines scattered across the fort.


4 Armory and Museums: Displays a vast collection of ancient weapons, armor, photographs, and historical artifacts, providing insights into the fort’s military history.

  • Location: 11 kilometers north of Jaipur, Rajasthan.
  • Timings: Open daily from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
  • Entry Fee: Nominal fee for Indian and foreign tourists. Separate charges for camera and video equipment.
  • Best Time to Visit: October to March, when the weather is pleasant.
